NCREL's Indicators of Engaged Learning: This profile tool presents indicators of engaged learning. For each indicator there are three choices that educators can compare to their own practice. When finished, educators can view the results in a graphical format to help identify their strengths and weaknesses.

Professional Competency Continuum from the Milken Family Foundation: This tool offers a continuum from entry through to transitional. A version that teachers could actually take online used to be available but now you have to download it in PDF format. The questions are really excellent, though and probably well worth the time it would take to teach your teachers to download it. Another option may be to download it once and then project it (in parts) before your group and have them self assess in the section you choose. A great discussion could follow.

Powerful Learning: This short book by Ron Brandt is available through ASCD (www.ascd.org ) for $8.95. It discusses the general conditions that are necessary for people to learn well and then applies these conditions to whole schools. Use the ten conditions listed on page 12 to have teachers assess which conditions are present in their classrooms and their teaching approaches.

MyTarget: Based on the UTAP model from Utah, this online assessment tool was modified for Indiana use by Indiana Technology Coordinators. It takes approximately two hours to complete, but may be taken in smaller sections. Results for individual teachers are given in graphic form and linked to suggested resources.

Planet Innovation: This site (Internet Schools) has several helpful tools. The one that may make the most sense for this project is "Stages of Concern" located under "Resources" and "Planet Innovation."

ISTE/ National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) and Performance Indicators: The ISTE Educational Technology Foundations Standards for All Teachers reflect professional studies in education providing fundamental concepts, knowledge, skills and attitudes for applying information technology in educational settings. (A newer version of the ISTE Recommended Foundations in Technology for All Teachers and particularly focused on students in Teacher Education programs.)
