Support & Resources for Implementation > Tutorials > Activities
Purpose: To familiarize participants with online tutorials and help set criteria for selecting them Materials: Access to the web and the list of tutorial links found in the resources section. Process: Ask participants if any of them have ever used an online tutorial. If so, ask them to tell about it. What did they learn? What was good about the experience? What issues might they consider in deciding whether to use another one? Ask others what they might look for in terms of an online tutorial. Would graphics be important? Would it matter who wrote it? Would they want it to be classroom-based? Standards-based? Jot down these criteria ideas on chart paper, a word processor with projection, or a chalkboard. Select one of the online tutorials from the resource list. Project it and click through some of the major sections - table of contents, lesson steps, diagrams, bibliography, etc. Have participants comment on the usefulness of this tutorial for their purposes. Make any additions or changes to the criteria list suggested by the comments. Provide a list of additional links to tutorials to the group and give them time to explore them, noting ones that they would like to use. |
