Technology Thread
The professional
development experience is threaded with technology.
That is, in helping teachers explore technology as a support for student
learning, we also model the use of technology as a support for the teachers'
learning journey and as a support for our work as teacher leaders. The
technology thread is woven throughout every phase of the work from Setting
the Stage to Portfolio Review and Presentation.
This strategy is important
because it:
- Models the practice
- Facilitates and has a positive
impact on the learning journey of teachers
- Adds previously unanticipated
resources and resource availability to teachers' repertoires
- Teaches technology skills in
the learning context
Examples include:
- Use a large monitor or projection device for sharing resources and
writing
- Display a Web site with a bibliography of thought- provoking reading
and links the sources for purchasing the materials
Display the prompts for reflection and the reaction (or sample reaction)
to help teachers express reflective practice
- Use Inspiration software or other graphical organizer to brainstorm
project design, outline professional development plans, illustrate inquiry
process
- Use a listserv to remind participants of events, collect reflections,
point to appropriate resources
- Use a Web page as a container for and link to all aspects of the project,
i.e., timelines, agendas, resources, accomplishments
- Use a bulletin board for group discussions and peer help
